Julie Allemand Becomes All-Time Assists Leader in Women's World Cup History
Julie Allemand entered the competition in Berlin ranked 8th with 87 assists. However, after dishing out 17 assists in her first two games against Turkey and Puerto Rico, her total reached 104 before the match against Australia. She needed just 5 more assists to become the all-time leader in the Women's World Cup history, a milestone she achieved in the first half of the game.
This accomplishment placed her at the top of the rankings, surpassing legendary players and a previous podium trio of Dawn Staley, Sue Bird, and Laia Palau.
"I really didn't know, but I'm very pleased," Julie Allemand told FIBA's website before the game against Australia. "Especially because with Belgium, we love to move the ball. We like to pass and play for each other. So, I think it has even more value. It shows how strong Belgium is when we play as a team. It's really great. I'm proud and happy that it's assists and not something else. It's incredible and a great achievement. But I don't want to dwell on it too much. I just always want to give my best on the court to help the team win. If it leads to scoring, that's good, and if it leads to assists, that's good too. It's good, but as I said, it's also for Belgium."
